Relocating the Rees House
On Wednesday, October 1, the Rees House began its historic move from 2110 S. Prairie Avenue to 2017 S. Prairie Avenue with the relocation of the property’s coach house. The three-story Harriet Rees House and its two-story coach house currently reside on property obtained by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) as part of a redevelopment project for the new McCormick Place Entertainment District.
Built in 1888, the Harriet F Rees House is one of Chicago’s most prestigious residential properties. As one of only seven remaining historic houses on Prairie Avenue, this home features a Romanesque Revival style meticulously designed by nationally renowned architects Cobb & Frost.
Since the Rees House is a Chicago landmark and appears on the National Register of Historic Places, it is subject to a Preservation Easement held by Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois. As a historical property, it’s existence must be protected. The move accomplishes these goals while making room for new and exciting developments.
The Harriet Rees House is scheduled to make its move the week of November 10th. For up to date information regarding the Rees House move, click here.
